Ayush Sharma - Week 13: My Basketball Journey

Throughout my life, I have always been intrigued by sports. One particular sport that plays a huge role in my overall development is basketball. Ever since I was young, I have always been playing basketball. Thanks to my brother, I was always so hyped to go play with him in the backyard, and then play with my friends who lived nearby on my street. As I progressed through the grades, the one thing I always played during lunch was basketball. I had always worked out and played with my friends, and that was the one thing that I always looked forward to on a regular basis.

One of my favorite memories in basketball was when I was in elementary school. I was on one of the best teams, and had so many good friends that created a positive environment that I loved to be a part of. The people that made up the team were so competent in their individual role, and they never failed to contribute their skills to our team. I had so much fun playing with them, and that is primarily because we had created such good memories and also became better friends off the court as well. I personally believe that my experience during my childhood years will forever remain a core memory for me, and I hope to create such similar moments for myself and others in the near future.

In March of 2025, I was blessed enough to participate in a March Madness tournament with my friends. It gave me so many flashbacks, and I overall had such a great time participating in the tournament. Although we lost our last game and are now out of the tournament, the fact that I was able to step on the court one more time meant so much to me. I played with people that I played with when I was younger, and I felt like a happy child on the court. I hope next year our team is able to take it all the way and win the championship.

Basketball has been such a key part of my life and I genuinely don’t know what I would do without it. The sport itself has made me so many memories and it is something I will forever cherish. I have met so many new people and established amazing friendships with the individuals around me, and I will forever be grateful for that and this wonderful sport.

  1. Hi Ayush! I love how you were able to connect the topic of your childhood memories to your favorite sport in your blog this week! Through reading your blog, I can clearly see that basketball is something that you really enjoy doing and is an activity that has defined a large part of your identity and your life. This is something that I feel like I can relate to as well, especially with your description of this sport providing you with many core memories during your early childhood. Similar to you, I spent a lot of my time after school playing a sport when I was young (although I did ice skating, not basketball), and even though I don’t go as much anymore, reflecting on my memories of this sport really brings back a sense of nostalgia and happiness. I was able to make so many good friends that I still talk to today and my experiences in this sport greatly shaped my character, which is something that I think you can probably relate to as well. I’m really glad that you were able to return back to your basketball memories during March Madness, and I think that it’s really great that you’re still able to have fun doing stuff that you love during our busy junior year. The way that you ended your blog was really heartwarming, and I definitely agree with you, our childhood sports have brought us memories that we will never forget. Thanks for sharing Ayush!
