Ayush Sharma - Week 16: High School Years
As I tread through the final days of my junior year, I start to realize the significance of my high school and why making so many memories is so important. This is partly because of the fact that I realize how my senior friends are feeling when they are graduating, and that is because they re feeling regret and other emotions as they feel that they did not make enough memories. Then, I ask myself, what steps could I take to ensure this same outcome does not happen to me? Well, the answer is quite complicated.
School has many functions. The main purpose is to thrive academically and ensure that one's grades are good and a student is actually able to pass and excel in their classes. Students should be able to learn a lot of new material which would allow them to use that knowledge and material in future endeavors when they graduate from school. So, coming into high school, a lot of my focus was on academics and also making sure I am able to get my work done in a timely manner with my best effort. This allows for me to get the best possible results while also ensuring I maintain my mental sanity with my grades and academic life.
Now, the second function is to ensure that students also are able to have a fun time and create many memories. This is usually done with events that the school organizes, and the leadership class as well. With the help of our school leaders, teachers, and other staff members, many fun activities are able to get organized. These activities ensure that a student is able to have a fun and exciting experience that they can share with their peers and family members. This also allows for them to balance their academic and social life hand-in-hand, which creates a better opportunity for the students to maintain good grades while also having a great time at school.
Now, let's dive deep into my personal experience. Thankfully, I have been blessed with the opportunity to learn at such an amazing school which allows me to obtain a lot of new knowledge and skills while also being able to participate in such fun events. After settling down in high school, I was able to balance the academic life and social life in what I would say a pretty good way. Serving as an ASB Executive for two (soon to be three) executive years, I can happily say that I have been able to host amazing events for my peers that they loved while also ensuring that academics is a top priority for students. I have created so many fun memories with my friends due to the fact that I have been on the inside of the planning for most school events that happen on campus. I hope to continue this streak for senior year, excelling in my academics and having fun participating in the events at school.

Hi Ayush! Your blog this week was really interesting, and I enjoyed reflecting on my experiences in school while reading through your writing. I really agree with the way you describe the functions of school, as it's definitely more than just providing us with education; it's is one of the most important places at this point of our lives right now, so it's equally as important for us to have fun during this time at well. I think that you've done a really good job with this as an ASB executive, and it's nice to see people care as much about the students in the school as you do. It was nice to be able to read about your experiences and perspective about your school memorie, so thanks for sharing Ayush!
ReplyDeleteHi Ayush, your blog made me really think about how the seniors are truly leaving soon, and I am genuinely sad that we’re sending them off now. I have made a lot of senior friends over the course of the years, and I have also seen them talk about their few regrets and the sorrow they carry now that their highschool career is ending. I also feel as though sometimes, we get too caught up in the education part, and not understanding fully how much freedom and chances of fun we get compared to our later years.
ReplyDeleteEvery alumni I have talked to always tells me that we should enjoy our highschool years, and get into a little bit of petty trouble, just for making the memories, and taking full advantage of the opportunities we’ll never get again. I am glad to hear that you have been able to serve the fun in our school, and specifically our grade. I still remember you running in freshmen year, and I am glad that you have been able to be a part of our council/leadership thus far. I can’t wait to enjoy this last year with everyone, and really make the best senior year that everyone can have, especially since we know that we’re not getting this moment back.
Hi Ayush! Reading your blog reminded me that the seniors are really leaving in two days. My art table is filled with seniors, and one of them I have gotten really close to this year. I am going to miss her complaints about her classes and her wisdom, especially what she was telling me today. I was stressed about looking for colleges and my lack of extracurriculars, but then she named me like a hundred things that I can do. Not only that, but your blog has me looking back on these few high school years and wondering if I feel fulfilled with what I have done. News flash, I am not. I feel like I could have done more, but what can you do? No point in crying over spilled milk. It’s nice that you are happy with what you have done, and I hope this streak of yours will continue!
ReplyDeleteHi Ayush. I’m glad to see someone else feel the same sentiment about creating experiences or memories as I do. Over the course of Sophomore and Junior year, a defining part of my actions as a high-schooler have been defined by my mindset about being more outgoing. From experience, this change not only impacted my social life or friends, but it also impacted my career.
ReplyDeleteI liked how you mentioned how memories and fun in high school are important to distinguish. While fun shouldn’t be eliminated and should even be encouraged at times, high school is still an academic setting that is designed to set our careers for success based on our interests and skills. I’ve learned this through the balance of work I find in the group of peers I work with on an after-school extracurricular. We work hard to help students learn, we goof off responsibly when possible after-hours.
As I leave my junior year, I too, look forward to my soon incoming leadership experience. You said you had attended many leadership meetings. I feel eager to experience them too. Thank you for the support and encouragement given to me this year as I start next year in leadership, Ayush! - Rafael Montes Barrera
