Svitra Rajkumar - Week 15 - Memories of Highschool

During my freshman year at American High school I never really understood the importance of participating in school activities, meeting new people and trying new things. I was so used to the routine way of doing things that I had maintained all my life, and never felt like going out of my way to bring something new into my life.

I can now understand how what we do as teenagers shapes us and the more experience we receive, contributes to how much we improve as people. We are only teenagers once so it is important to enjoy our time and explore new things. You never know how much the skills you learn will help you, or when certain activities will come into use. The memories that we make in high school should be something we can look back on with positivity; even though we experience stress and hardships in school, now that we are heading into our senior year I want to be able to remember all the good parts of high school.

Memories and stories that will remain with us forever. It is unbelievable that what seemed like such a core part of my life is coming to an end, and that in a couple years we will all be moving on to much bigger and better things. I have learned so much, including that to be able to look back on your memories with happiness and positivity, you have to put in the effort to create those memories.

  1. Hi Svitra! Your blog this week made me feel so sentimental because I feel like I can really relate to your experiences and what you’ve written 😢. I really like the way that you started off describing your experiences as a freshman and connected it to the way that you view your life now. I think that we’ve definitely all matured a lot since the day that we became highschoolers, especially with the way that we perceive ourselves and the world around us. For me, I think that I’ve become a lot more confident in myself as a person, and I really agree with your statement about our experiences as teenagers being a large shaping influence on our lives. Similar to the way you feel, it makes me really sad to think that this period of our lives will almost be over. I can still remember my first day of school as a freshman, and now I can’t believe that I’m going to become a senior soon. It really feels like time has passed so quickly, and there’s so many things that I feel like I haven’t done as a high schooler yet. But even so, I’ve made so many wonderful memories throughout these past few years, and I agree with you, looking back on these memories in the future will only bring back feelings of happiness and nostalgia. I really enjoyed your blog this week, Svitra, so thank you so much for sharing!

  2. Hello Svitra! Your Blog is really similar to mind, as I also talked about the importance of appreciating the memories we make in high school as well. No matter what, the memories we make along our journey in school really helps us grow our overall characters and our personalities as well. I believe that a lot of individuals coming into high school did not really understand the importance of the events that happen at school and all the socializing opportunities there are. These are really important as once we are older we can relive and talk about these memories as well, and at least live a life without regret. Your last statement about putting in a lot of effort to make quality experiences is also really valid, as memories are best made when an individual actually understands the importance of them.
